Shortened.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Shortened.
The recollections
shortened when
stories became
creased, folded
in the mind.
Time distorts
memories
that linger......
disguising moments
as inconsequential.

Time distorts memories in many ways. It also serves to soften the worst things -- which can be good, and bad.

Yes indeed KLGoode Thanks for the review
Maybe because of my grandfather, but this makes me think of Alzheimer's. Lost memories...
Although, I guess as we get older we forget details anyway don't we?
I'm sure I totally missed the meaning of this but that's what it made me think of.

Yes, quite sad to actually see it happen to someone you love. :-/
did you mean "that linger"?

i read it that way...i like this. Most of the time those stories, such as fishing stories are tales that grow taller with time...but some recollections become shorter...maybe the painful ones we would rather forget.
