When a glance froze time

When a glance froze time

A Poem by andrew mitchell

When a glance froze time.
Swirling ice,
a swig, scotch,
drowning time.
Party, motion,
laughter, noise,
music..... loud.
Across the room
he sees HER
mingling, cheerful;
immeasurable beauty.
His glance meets hers,
paused eye contact,
momentarily frozen,
he scans, she reads,
time resets,
spell broken.
She smiles,
he salutes
raising the glass,
acknowledging.
He turns,
she disappears
ice swirls,
last drop.
He sighs.......
sad, reflecting
over his
vanished youth.

Reads different from so many of your other writings but definitely well. I like the shortness and sharpness of your lines, they create clear and enjoyable images. The last stanza is really good, provides a different feel and view on the whole piece, a nice closing.

That longing is a killer, whether it be for person, place or concept. Treat them like a message in bottle. Sealed them in tight and let the ocean take them to where and whom it will. Here's to the making of new, more youthful memories. Loved this write, Andrew:)
