The commoners.

The commoners.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

The commoners.
T'was extremely hard
to find a stand out
in the crowd.

Everyone behaved
the same;
in manners and looks.

No one took the lead

until.......

the shepherd arrived.
He was different.

A universal idea. Being the one to stand out from the pack. A leader. An innovator. A person of courage.

This is a very relevant poem for the modern society we live in; one in which people try so hard to just conform with what is considered the normal parameters of existance and behaviour. The true leaders, the shepherd's are those who care not for conformity, and rise above the restrictions that society places on its populace.

An interesting piece, Andrew. Well written with a relevant theme, tinged with a slight biblical element. Nice writing.

thank you doodley for your comments.
Quite a cleverly-written piece that doubles (unintentionally or otherwise) as a universal microcosm.

Thank you so much dear poet for your words
i too love this...the average person standing out, without even trying to...how we don't have to be rich or flashy...just REAL.
