The final lament

My weathered wells of tears are empty
My thoughts just burning embers;
The final curtain falls on memories remembered.
My heart of desire, no longer the fire.
As love and passion are ashes,  gone.
My final breath, my spirit expelled;
Free from prison walls.
Beaten by age, decay; no longer entrapment
Caged within rattling bones.
But free to fly at last
To the blue sky of heaven's above.

This is sad but beautiful. To loose a loved one cuts so deep but when they are suffering , there is a little peace knowing they no longer are held down by this pain anymore!
SO sorry for your friend loss ...>hugs< ..dear friend!

The title grabbed me as I skimmed through your list of poems. This of course speaks to my own heart as I lost a dear one just a couple of weeks ago. A beautiful tribute to your friend's wife. Thank you for sharing. I shall be back!

Hi Andrew. So much hurt have you injected into these lines!!! It pierced the heart and bled sorrow . . . pouring into the flow of words until I saw the final line in red!!! one suggestion . . .
'passion are ashes . . . gone.' gives the read that pause before making the impact of gone. Nothing else to change, you have infused nostalgic misery into the lines. alf dark!
