THAT'S FUNNY I'M IN LONDON?

THAT'S FUNNY I'M IN LONDON?

A Poem by andrew mitchell
"

I wanted a Monty Python-ish twist at the end

"
Its evening in London.
On opening the inn window
Overlooking wet cobble stone streets
My senses engulfed, damp cold air.
The light of street lamps
Shine through clouds of fog.
The smell of burning coal from chimneys above
Permeates the nostrils.
Horse drawn carriages, Clip Clop Clip Clop down narrow streets
Gentlemen in tall black hats
Whose faces you cannot see
Stand under lamp posts.
While exhaling their mist the fog feeds.
Ladies shuffle, quickly in the shadows
Through the darkened crowds.
Suddenly A shriek!
A scream of terror and cries.
"Let me go! Let me go!"
Police whistles start to blow.
Then shining in the light I see it!.
A glimmering, shiny ,tapered knife in my view!  Oh no! Its Jack the Ripper!
Meanwhile in my hotel room
In the corner,
The vacant rocking chair slowly,
rocks and rocks and then...............

Stop! Stop! Lets cut this read
Oops! sorry My readers I really am
I know....I had you worried. I was too.
I just had a bad dream. You see!
Back to sleep everyone!
I shall too!
Happy thoughts everyone. Sweet dreams too!

thank you kind Jesse, it was just a mad fun write to lure the reader then the twist lol:)
Interesting with an accurate description of London in 'The 'Rippers' day. I thought it read a little Edgar Allan Poe with the rocking chair, until the final stanza where I at first thought it was the making of a movie and then finally a dream lol

Ahh, again.. clever twist. I liked the pictures that pushed through my mind and built up a scene for a movie that may continue in sleep :)

Hi Andrew. I sooo love a story with a twist. Yep, you got me. I had just reached the point of wondering whether and how you would get involved, and whammo . . . reality! Loved this one, alf
