THE LONER

THE LONER

A Poem by andrew mitchell

A loner knows isolation well,
For he can sense coldness just by smell.
He feels like a beacon way out to sea
Away from the mainland, few people see.
Riding the waves attracting attention;
Sending people in other directions.
And like a desert island on the sea
He asks" Why cant people see past the trees
To spend some time for the welcome is free?"
How shallow they are, he cannot believe,
And seeing people  playing on the sand;
He thinks of being beached amongst their clan.
But never understood, he would swim away
To a beacon at sea where he shall stay;
Like a hermit crab alone in his shell,
His only home .... he knows well.

Hi Andrew. This speaks to me in volumes. I feel you are that 'loner', living in a society that is lost in hedonistic times and you are not there with them in your soul. You are, a deep thinker, that much is obvious from your poetry, and I think your 'shell' is your outer persona where few are invited to penetrate. This, of all that I have read, reeks of the inner self, of a longing to find that special someone to share your existence. on the other hand, I could be soooo wrong, I just don't think so, alf

this reminds me of the hermit card in tarot...a man who is finding his inner light away from everybody because he knows being solitary can give him wisdom. A lovely poem
