A PIRATE'S CODE A BOY'S DREAM

A PIRATE'S CODE A BOY'S DREAM

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Hoist the flag; skull and bones me lads. We set sail tonight!
Every boy's dream is
To sail the high seas
In search of hidden treasure.
And so I land map in hand
To find those pirate treasures.
Come ashore me boys. Its ours!
Just lying in a secluded cave
Are many a man's pain and pleasure;
Where tales are taken to the grave
To remain for ever and ever.
May God help you with my cutlass I strike thee!
And on the walls , rusty chains
Rattle old bones
While on the floor there remains
Caskets of precious stones.
Arr me hearties! What will it be, gems or gold?
Oh! What pleasures to be found
Scattered over lamp lit ground
Come on me boys! Lets get some pretty girls!
But now I've grown older, these dreams I find
Are shipwrecked somewhere..... in the back of my mind.

Superb Andrew. You brought back so many childhood memories with this one. I love the way you suddenly snapped the reader out of the fantasy - the way you must have been brought down to earth yourself - very well communicated dear scribe.
the final line is stunning writing, I felt.
Go to top of the class AM. Truly Boys Own stuff. Great !!

p.s. I think the line about the flag at the start maybe needs a semi colon after 'flag' or needs something to separate 'flag' from 'skull' - just for presentation my friend.

Arrr :) who does not love the free spirited gales of pirate adventures? dreams of open seas, treasure, loyalty and betrayals, deaths and haunted "bloody" moons over the oceans.
I loved the last line!!

Hi Andrew. Great alliteration in parts, favourite . . . scattered over lamp lit ground. This is great!! I love the way you are thinking. And saving the nostalgia to the end is something I really like. Loved this, alf
