My Best Friend

My Best Friend

A Poem by Alyssa Jay
"

I wrote this around 8 months ago for my Literature & Comp. course.

"

Best friends are supposed to be loyal

Best friends are supposed to be true

You can tell them your secrets

And are the only ones who see the real you

My best friend

Can do all this and more

Not only is she loyal

But she is never a bore

It seems like forever

But we’ve been friends for six years

That’s a lot more

Than most of our peers

She knows me so well,

I call her a creep

What amazes most people,

Is how our friendship’s so deep.

She knows I don’t sleep well at night

And I know she does not like hugs

If we disobey our parents once

We think that we’re thugs.

She sleeps over a lot

At least once a week

But she hates most of my music

And how I dance like a geek.

(she’s just jealous)

We make the right choices in life

We don’t do drugs or drink rum

Although everyone around us is doing it

We just think that it’s dumb

My mom treats her

Like one of her own

She’s more like a sister

Than any friend I’ve known

We are both very different

Not many similarities do we share

Such as appearance, personality

And even what we wear!

Although we have the same sense of humor

And she knows how to make me smile

Which is very useful while I’m feeling down

And keeps me happy for a while

No matter what happens

Our friendship will never end

Many have never had a friendship

As strong as ours

So most do not comprehend

We will be going our separate ways soon

And it is her I will miss

But I don’t worry about it too much

Because she will always be my sis
