Lonely Nights and Empty Faces

Lonely Nights and Empty Faces

I looked for the good in people,
Until I realized some had none.
Until I realized that some,
Kissed you while they held you under the point of a gun.

I poured myself into people,
Until I experienced the unforgiving heartache,
When you just walked away,
With a twisted smirk when you saw my heart break.

I trusted the power of promises,
Until I realized 'I love you' was just a phrase.
Until I wasted my nights away crying,
Because I meant what I said and you were never just a phase.

I believed in happiness,
Until I loved someone who didn't love me.
Until I saw how one could just fade away unnoticed.
Now I sit in loneliness day after empty day until life sets me free.
