Slumber

Slumber

A Poem by Lucy
"

Separating the nightmare from the pleasant dream.

"

In solace I find serenity’s sweet

Succor divine of the free spotless mind,

Until slumber’s caress for me to meet,

Unsheathes its claws like knives sharp from the grind.

With vigor, plunged into the darkness blind

To stir around past and bring to present

Secret pinings of the heart left confined,

And continue inner turmoil’s descent.

Ergo to find a way to circumvent,

Lest sly terrors claim your last sanity,

We find our consciousness we reinvent,

In no vain hope to find humanity.

To solace slumber and suppress the dark,

And escape to pleasant dreams yet embarked.

I thought I would point out, that line ten only has nine syllables. It makes me a hypocrite, as I rarely conform to the rules of a sonnet, but perhaps you are a stickler for rules. Regardless, it was nicely penned.
