Pure and True

Pure and True

A Poem by Alyssa Carlstrom

Love... it's a crazy thing.
One minute you're fighting for one another,
the next you're crying because of something you don't understand.
But love is only complicated if you make it complicated.
You may not know, but there is a man in my life.
I've been in love with him for ten years.
I am not married.
I do not even have the ring of engagement on my finger.
He is aware of everything that upsets me before I tell him.
Did I mention that he had to fight for my heart?

Yes, you see, he had a competition with another man.
I loved them both, so what was I to do?
On a summer day, the man I was in love with for ten yeras approached me.
He said,
"I want to be your prince, and I want you to be my princess. I promise I will never leave you, and I will do everything in my power to calm the storms in your life. You can cry to me any time you like,
and I will share your pain. Won't you let me into your heart?"
I was speechless, of course.
Immediately I accepted this man... You should know his name is Jesus Christ.
But what of the other?

He is second place in my life.
I may marry him one day, as long as it's okay with my Prince.
