A photo is worth a thousand words

Photos- the windows to the past.

Its dark, its night

And Im all alone

Id like to think that

This, this is because 

Everyone is sleeping.

Id rather think that

But its true

That Im too old

All the children have left home

And Im a widow.

The insomnia, it is too much.

I glance over 

And see my old photo album.

I decide to take a walk down memory lane.

The first photo

It catches me by surprise.

It is my first day of kindergarten

Sitting next to me on the floor,

Criss cross applesauce

Is my cousin Randall.

And the feelings they overwhelm me...

That first day,

When I thought the guinea pigs would bite

And the other children were mean

That day Randall was there with me

He lives so far away now...

If only I could visit...

If only heaven had visiting hours.

I flip the page.

The next photo that catches my eye

Is one in which I sit proudly at the piano

My hands poised above the keys

And my piano teacher, Nalisia, sitting next to me

And the feelings, they overwhelm me.

The day when I thought

I would never learn to play,

When I thought I would mess up

At each recital

And she assured me I would do fine.

She lives so far away now...

If only she could show me some more techniques...

If only heaven had an appointment book...

I flip the page again.

I spot a photo

I am proudly holding

A driver's permit in my hands.

My father, he is the one

Who sits in the passenger seat

In the car I am about to drive.

And my mind wanders 

To the parking lot

In which I believed I would never go above 5 mph

In which I thought I would crash in the street

And my dad,

He told me that every second showed me

I was very capable of driving.

He lives so far away now...

If only we could take another ride...

If only heaven had roads and cars I could ride in...

And as the tears freely flow,

I fall asleep 

Walking down memory lane

With my cousins, my teacher, my parents

And my whole childhood.
