Maxwell held the gun close to his head. He felt his heart beating slower and slower. He knew for this to work he needed to calm down. Samson had warned him of the consequences that could follow with a crazy idea like this, but Maxwell had put all of his affairs in order. Now Samson lay at the bottom of the Koi fish pond that was once his pride and joy. Maxwell heard the door bell ring; he knew that now was the best time. He waited for a moment until he heard the doorbell ring once more. Then he pulled the trigger and fell to the floor. He was awake still when he heard the front door busted down and what sounded like a stamped of men rushing inside. He wished that only men would see what he had done; he didn’t want any women to be witness to his deeds. He saw a woman in a swat suit walk into the room. His heart dropped and all he desired was dead. He fell asleep. However, it wasn’t a normal sleep he knew what was going on around him, but he was still in a dreamlike state.

He finally woke up from his dream in a white room. The sun was being covered by the dreary clouds and there wasn’t a single bird singing. Maxwell looked around the room and was startled by a man standing in the corner. The man was largely built, but had the facial expressions of a 9 year old. Max couldn’t help but laugh at the idea that this man was going to be watching over him. He attempted to move, but it was no use, he was tied down like a hog. The man stared coldly at Max and with a certain look that automatically made the man look 50. Max was stunned by this change in a man so fast.

The silence in the room was broken by a doctor entering accompanied by a pair of men who were most likely detectives. The doctor had a worried look on his face, “Gentlemen he has just woken up. I don’t think it would be in anyone’s best interest to question him. Even if he was to give you something it all would be dismissed in court.” The men stared blankly at the doctor. The larger of the two finally replied in a very unappealing raspy tone, “Your job is to make sure that he is alive that is all you are needed for. Now leave this room or I will take this man out of the hospital so that he isn’t under your care anymore. Now I know you don’t want that so you better leave and prepare his paperwork to so he can be discharged.” The doctor shifted uncomfortably and almost immediately Maxwell spoke up in a weak voice, “Gentlemen please; the doctor is just doing his job. I am well enough to answer these men’s questions so please doctor do not worry about me.”

The doctor simply nodded and left. “Now gentlemen you lied to the doctor and made a scene, so what can I help you with before you decide to cause more damage?” The men looked at him. The thinner man finally brought out a piece of paper that was sealed in an evidence bag. Maxwell couldn’t help but smile. “This letter was sent from your home and signed from you,” the man said staring gloomily at Max. Max had a smile across his face, “Yes that is my letter. I sent it to the police station a week ago. I have been waiting for a few days now to be arrested.” One of the men looked shocked but the other had no expression. The man with no expression said, “We can’t go and question every psycho who attempts to take credit for the disappearance of more than 50 people.”

Interesting start. Nice cliff-hanger at the end.

I don't understand how he survived a bullet in the head, but perhaps that will be explained later in the story.
