The Fish On Land

The Fish On Land

A Poem by A.M. Everlasting

We can’t outrun the lion
Or match the softness of its mane
No matter just how hard we try
Or just how long we train
There’s grace in every feature
God touched with His hand
A beauty much too beautiful
For us to ever understand
The bird was meant to fly
The parrot gifted with his talk
Still they glide the skies
As the earth we’re meant to walk
So why is it we reach for more
Than what we’re made to be
Flailing like the fish on land
Made to swim the seas.
