Strawberries on Top

Strawberries on Top

A Poem by Lauren Beth

He exclaims “pretty please!”
Another undisputed favor requested,
Without retribution asked for, or ever given.
“Pretty please?” he inquires
Looking adoringly into her soft azure eyes,
“With strawberries on top!”
Because he knows her so well.
She loathes cherries.
He knows her soft spots, her weaknesses.
Him, simply him, being the biggest one.
She hears those sweet tasting words and
The desired deed is as good as done.
And he knows it by the glimpse of her wry smile
Before she turns to walk away.

I liked this a lot! It was sweet, amusing, and very intriguing! I thought that you did a fantastic job in describing the scene and the relationship between the two characters, and I felt like you really brought them to life! Your choice of words were so beautiful, and they really captured the essence of the situation. I actually liked the simplicity of your poem, because for me personally, it gave me the room to wonder and imagine what might have been the backstory of these two characters. A very nice write. :)

Definitely a playful bit of writing here. Almost too vague, though; I'd like to see this explored a little more at depth.

About
I enjoy writing poetry, usually just what comes to me. I write for me, it's like just something that I need to get out. Whatever hits me at the moment I start jotting down, on sticky notes, napkins.... more..
