Brutal Reality

Brutal Reality

A Poem by Lauren Beth

You cut me to the bare core

Your words eat at my flesh

No intention to be cruel

But you mar me none the less

I hold back the tears,

Don’t want to cry anymore

Your truth is a brutal one

Because it’s only you I adore

You come first in my heart

Wish I was for you the same

Yet there’s no changing reality

You want the attention and fame

Love is not your main desire

Though you in my life is all I need

Your true love and devotion

Would make me complete

But, you have a fire within

That I cannot extinguish

You must pursue on your own

A goal you must accomplish

I cannot stand in your way

Or you may grow to resent me

I hurt inside but disguise it

So you can feel free to be what you want to be…..

So much pain here....and in all your poetry - poor baby.....
Your timing and rhyme are excellent. And your emotions are real and moving.

Great poem!

Trying to hold the love of a gypsy heart... such intense drama and emotions you bring to the reader... some people are always looking for something greater leaving those who love them to hang on by their fingernails...

I hurt inside but disguise it
So you can feel free to be what you want to be..

the ending shows how selfless love can be... wonderfully done.

i love this. pure heartbreak & raw emotions. such a sad situation, so hard to know that you are in love with someone who really doesn't want to be in love. something else always comes first. i can relate. great piece.

i absolutely loved this...i've lived these very feelings...sometimes the truth from the mouth of another is almost too much to bear when it doesn't fit in with the love we have for them. the hardest thing is to stand back and let go...but sometimes it's the only choice we have. very nice work...

I enjoy writing poetry, usually just what comes to me. I write for me, it's like just something that I need to get out. Whatever hits me at the moment I start jotting down, on sticky notes, napkins.... more..
