Mijn Terra Terra IncognitaA Poem by alternative_beTranslation in Flemish/Dutch of My Terra Terra Incognita as promised to Orlando Furioso
O, MY TERRA TERRA INCOGNITA!
Bat femme wings Boy... What does boy? Boy-blue-jeans boy Blood read sun sinks in vest White vest Boy-white-vest Wings, wings from bough of ash Whisper of cattle biting grass Heat of summer hangs in hair Flair of boy flare Watches bat Watches boy Watches, watches Deep in mind, all alone Huff of cattle breath on grass Suite of grass and write of moon
Bat wings Boy sings Live things Owl sighs Love flies Boy lies Grass sighs Femme nighs Closer, closer, ever flies Eyes meet Both know Hearts beat Would you nip my neck, a-bat? Femme soars but to dive Would you give your neck, a-boy? Would you taste my blood? Would you want me to? Tis dangerous! I know, lie back Like this? O, moon-neck mine! Yes! Yes, sir No one sees us? Our fantasy uneyeable out skips eyes Bat femme eyes! Boy her prize ~ Moon! Witness! Bat wings o'mantle love Dark, darker Love envelops Tassel moans Taste of... What? Taste of what? Magenta? Taste of magenta passion flute Brush of lips rush Slush of fears hush Rush of life lush Tip of tongue, tip-a-tip-touches neck A kiss! There is a-kiss! Another kiss O, kisses! Lips meet Kiss kisses kiss kissing Lips part La! Tiniest of pin pricks Boy smiles Bat moans...tastes boy... Boy strokes femme Talent flows Boy to bat Blood talent red flows Bat knows That first divine sip! Bat knows Boy smiles through femme veins verse A kind of pulsing poetry Which... Bat knows! Once tasted O, once tasted! Once tasted... Smile at, 'can't go back' Can't go, can't go, won't go...back Not from this...seductiveness © 2008 Orlando Furioso

A few days ago I mentioned to Orlando Furioso that his English original could well have been written in Dutch/Flemish. The author is aware that I was going to translate his work.
The audio file is a bonus: I chose to recite using a Flemish accent over a Dutch accent because the Flemish accent is softer to listen to. I hope Orlando likes it. If he does not, I will take this down! |

This is amazing work... my dear.. now the poem gets more weight somehow - different.. wonderful. I could learn with you Dutch.. fantastic.. I feel like Slovak and Polnish.. several words ...feels similar when one has a certain language intelligence right? Orlando writes such an abstraction and you really did a great job !!

Aww!! this was lovely! It took a few minutes to catch up to the words for me, but my southern ear soon warmed to the strangely, beautifully succinct word flow! Great work, Indeed, this is like hearing the soul of the poem, though it be in flemish/dutch (and who's to say all poetry speaks English, by the by? ) haha, this was a treat to read/hear lovely work friend Orlando and proficient Belgian writer!! ~P

I am moved by what you have done here, dear Belgian friend.
It was a strange experience for me to hear the poem read. A feeling which was compounded by it being in Dutch/Flemish. I can't stress how utterly fascinating it was to hear it in a different language also. I was totally captivated by the experience. Now to the performance. Firstly, you have a wonderfully voice. I was taken with the sound of your voice as well as following the poem to see how it flowed in a technicl sort of way. You are very expressive and your voice sounds confident and calming. The way you performed the poem also captured its surreal mood. It was like listening to the voice of a dream, or the soul of the poem perhaps. I firmly believe poems should be read and write with that in mind. I do read myself, but not as often as I would like. Your reading here encourages me to do more reading. I think you gave the poem the breath of life. I thank you for doing it and for doing it so well, at least to my biased ear. Whatever anyone might think of the poem I am sure that anyone who hears you read this, or any other poem, will be enchanted by your voice. So BRAVO! A wonderful performance! Warm applause and, of course, profound thanks from your friend in England. Posted 16 Years Ago1 of 1 people found this review constructive. |
