I live in a country that has about 10,000,000 inhabitants. The biggest cities have about 500,000 inhabitants. I live in one of those cities that has got a lot of theatres, acting schools and locally famous actors. When you happen to work or live in one of our bigger cities, the famous really become regular passers by on the street, in shops. They are as tangible as I describe. They are hugely popular, but are making about as much money as the average civil servant ...
Demographically, looking at the population, my home town resembles a miniature version of New York with a neighbourhood called China Town and our version of Broadway ... and about all the actors you see on television passing you by in real life, during their daily routine, in which way they become a part of your daily routine and sometimes it is not even clear who started saying 'hi' first ...

It is always good to remember that we are all equal in the long run.
Also, I wonder if it is really as bad as Orlando below commented?
Many times when I greet those I meet, and I almost always do, they ignore me. but I have yet to have a real confrontation.........and most of the time, folks reply in kind, or start conversation.
And my interactions are not restricted to nice neighbor hoods, believe me.
Great poem and comment! With a definite positive note.

I like the poem as it is light and optimistic and it has a catchy feel in the hi/by faces/aces repeats.
Being a Brit I find myself on a small island with about 65,000,000 others. If you say hi to some strangers in say London, you stand a good chance of getting a fist in the face...or even a knife in the ribs. There is no way I would say Hi to a stranger here or answer one who said Hi to me. But then I am of the misanthropic school of thought.
A little smile and a Hi cost nothing, but can warm a being inside and lighten up someone's day whoever and wherever it may be. TV stars are human beings as you and I, nothing more nothing less - they just have a face that is known by more people.
How comes there are people to whom it seems to take so much effort to bring themselves to give a little smile - are they so unhappy?!?
Excellent poem with a wonderful flow and a great message. Thumb up!
It is interesting. The way you portray the lessening of the glamour of popularity with familiarity is nicely done and so very true. I especially loved your last stanza.
