Tribute to the poet laureateA Poem by alternative_bePoem for the poet laureate of a big city, because every city needs a conscience. Dutch spoken. Subtitles in Dutch and English avail
The existence of the poet laureate
Usually makes life somewhat lighter As an activist for justice Who continually fights a losing battle He remains the rebel He who tolls the bell For our city is no hell However, it tends to get under our skin That snuggles up into our conscience So letters he will sweat Apart from blood, sweat and tears For worries are no delusions The city's star is fading Yet the mayor still eats his beloved donuts As spoken word on YouTube Here, I read my original Dutch version, with the English subtitles made up of the poem that I wrote here above © 2016 alternative_beAuthor's Note
