Ch. 11

A Chapter by Ashley

The sun shown through the windows and reflected off of Jamie’s bruised face. Tears glimmered at the brim of her eyes. She didn’t want to have to move, but she hated that she had to sit here and ponder in thought.

Stacie was still sleeping. Jamie noticed how tears streamed down her cheek past the cuts. Jamie outstretched her arm to carefully wipe off the tears.

I don’t know how this happened, Jamie thought. This wasn’t supposed to happen. She pried herself out of bed to make her and Stacie some breakfast. Her body hurt and was sore.

When she got into the kitchen, she read the numbers on the microwave clock. 12:43.

“I can’t believe it’s so late,” Stacie said showing up behind Jamie.

“What time did we lay down last night?”

“Around two or three.”

They both looked at each other and sighed. It was obvious they were both still exhausted and worn down. Jamie continued on making breakfast. When it was done, they both sat down and ate in a mist of silence. Stacie broke the ice in a moody yet innocent just wondering kind of way.

“What did you mean by ‘I’m sorry’ and ‘I hate you…’ You were talking in your sleep. Are you ok? Is there something you want to talk about?”

Jamie paused for a second. Her fork dropped out of her hand and clattered to the table making the egg on the fork go flying. Her eyes were wide with panic and tears started forming. She ran for Stacie’s room.

Stacie ran after her. “Jamie! Talk to me!”

Jamie closed the door and sat on the bed. Stacie knocked slowly as she creaked the door open. Jamie was sitting on the edge of the bed with her hands clutching her head. Tears streamed down her flushed skin.

Stacie came over and put an arm around her. Jamie lay her head on Stacie’s shoulder and cried.

“I’m so sorry!” She spoke between sobs.

“Why? What are you talking about? Did Renz do something to you?” Stacie said in a demanding tone.

Jamie just continued to cry. For some reason, she just couldn’t stop. All of the fear and guiltiness just flowed out of her eyes. When she finished sobbing, she managed to sputter out a few words.

“Renz…I hate…”

“You can talk to me. We’ve known each other forever…”

“I…hate…him…so much,” she cried. “I hate him.” Jamie kept coughing and her eyes were red and blood shot.

Stacie looked confused. She went in the bathroom and brought tissues, and helped wipe off the tears.

“Why do you hate him?”

“He…made me do thing…I didn’t want to do…I hate him,” she started crying again.

“What did he make you do? You can tell me.”

“He threatened to kill me! And…,” Jamie started crying again.

“Tell me…”

“But…you’ll hate me…” Jamie whimpered.

“I won’t. I promise.”

“It’s his fault! Oh my…I hate him! I hate him!” Jamie started crying and screaming. “He won’t go away!”

Stacie sat there, not sure what to do, and continued to hold her. “It’s gonna be ok. Just tell me what’s going on.”

“He kidnapped Elise! It’s his fault! I am glad he paid with his death!” She screamed.

Stacie’s jaw dropped, her eyes wide with terror. Were Jamie and Renz the reason for Carlos’ death

Elise woke up in the same cold dungy room. Caked blood covered her bottom lip. She lightly knocked on the wall she was laying against.

“Kaedon?”

There was no answer. Elise waited a little.

“Kaedon?” There was still no reply. She was getting worried. So, she would try one more time.

“Kaedon?” She knocked. “Are you there?”

There was another door slam, as Elise’s heart skipped a few beats. She didn’t want to turn around, but she felt pulling at the chains.

“So you figured out Kaedon was here to…I thought that would end up happening. Come with me.”

The mysterious man grabbed at Elise’s bloody wrists and led her through the hallway out the door. Elise could feel her heart in her throat, and trickles of sweat and tears ran down the side of her face. She wanted to know where she was going but, she dared not to speak. She didn’t want to get hurt again.

She bent over to the side and threw up. The mysterious man kicked her in her stomach.

“Keep moving. I am not taking you somewhere so you can puke the whole time. Get up,” he said kicking her again.

Elise let out agonizing yelps, as she cursed under her breathe trying to get up. Where is Kaedon, she wondered. As the mysterious man was leading her down the hallway, she noticed that the lights were becoming dimmer. Dizziness and fatigue ran through her body. What did…he do to me... Her limbs felt weak and she could no longer walk straight. The lights went out…

“You…..it was you…..” Tears welled up in Stacie’s eyes. “It was your fault that…Carlos is…dead??”

“No….Stacie….,” Jamie backed away. “It wasn’t me…it was Renz…he…,” she swallowed hard, “he threatened to kill me. I’m so sorry…! He’s in the mob. That’s why he never talked about his work. I didn’t know what to do!”

Stacie just sat back down on the bed and started crying. “I hate this so much…” she whispered. Why did this have to happen? Is he going to kill us now too?”

Jamie cried with her. “I think he’s dead… I hate myself you have no idea… I feel like all of this is my fault…”

They both heard a knock on the door. Stacie and Jamie looked at each other. Because of yesterday’s events, no one wanted anything to do with anyone. The knocker was persistent.

“Sshhhhh….” Stacie put her finger over her mouth. “We have to be quiet,” she whispered.

The knocking stopped, but they were too scared to move. Jamie looked towards the window because she heard a whistling sound. The window crashed, and a little ball appeared in front of the both of them. Stacie’s eyes widened with panic.

“RUN!!!!”

Stacie and Jamie got up off of the bed and ran only to be blown in the air by the explosion. Stacie’s and Jamie’s legs were bloody all the way down from there knees. They both cried out in pain as the tried to rip off their pajama bottoms. When they were off, as soon as they tried getting up a man cam walking up to the both of them.

Jamie and Stacie’s eyes were in disbelief. This wasn’t possible.

“Re—“

“Save it,” Renz said in a hard voice. He stepped on Jamie’s fingers, just so he could listen to her whine. “You stupid little w***e. I can’t believe you would betray your own boyfriend.” He laughed. “I knew this would happen. That’s why,” he paused, “I already had all of this planned out.”

“I thought…” Jamie paused from the pain of her fingers, “I thought you were…dead….”

“Well,” he paused and pulled out a gun and shoved the barrel in Jamie’s face. The gun caught in the reflection of the tears sliding down her cheeks. Her heart was beating in her throat, and she couldn’t find anything to say. “That’s what you get for thinking…” and Renz pulled the trigger on the gun.

A scream came from Stacie as the bullet shot through Jamie’s skull and blood exploded everywhere. Jamie’s decapitated body fell lifelessly onto Stacie while she continued screaming. Blood sprayed onto Stacie’s face all over her arms and legs. Renz turned after changing out the bullet in his gun and reloaded it, and looked at Stacie. Stacie’s pulse quickened and gave her an adrenaline high. She pushed the dead weight body off of her and got up and ran. She ran through the back door, going under fences, through bushes, until she could find the road.

Renz chased after her. Damn it, he thought. I shouldn’t have waited so long. She needs to be killed before she tells anyone. Renz kept running and without noticing a wire under his feet, fell face first on the hard black asphalt. He looked up and saw the agent his father hired to work with them.

It was the ‘FBI agent’ back from the restaurant. He was hired to give a fake story, and to pull their attention away so he could ‘die’.

“This ends now.” The agent said. Renz could see his firebird parked a little away from where they were standing. “You’re not going to kill more innocent people. This ends.”

Renz looked away for a second, and then looked up. “That’s what you think!” Renz pulled out the gun from underneath his stomach and shot the agent in the chest. The agent fell on the ground gasping for air.

Renz’s thoughts went back to Stacie. Damn him, I lost her. He looked around and saw a trail of blood. He smirked. I found you…
