Ch. 3 Just Another ReasonA Chapter by Ashley
“You’re doing what?” Kristin yelled through the phone as tears brimmed her eyes. “I’m hanging out with Amy Wednesday,” Louis sputtered through the phone. “Cancel your plans.” “No. You’re not the boss of me.” “What? Cancel or we’re over. This is the girl you said you wanted to f**k? You’re not hanging out with her!” “No! You don’t control me! I’ve never done that to you!” “Liar! I don’t hang out with anyone because of you. So, cancel? I’m giving you a choice. Me or her?” “Then we’re over, because I’m not canceling.” Click. Kristin just sat there and cried. What the hell….She screamed inside her mind. She pulled back out the phone to text Louis’ sister that she wouldn’t have to give her a ride home Friday, because she wasn’t going. Louis mentioned he wanted everything back. Bullshit, she thought. Kristin laid her head down on pillows, and forced herself to go to sleep. In the morning, her phone flashed, ‘3 missed calls 1 new voicemail’. Maybe he cancelled, she prayed, I doubt it. After getting ready for school, she pulled open her phone and listened to her voicemail. It was Louis, saying that she could keep the things because they were gifts, and he wanted to be friends, and hoped that they could go out again in the future. Because Kristin was at school by herself, none of her friends had arrived yet, she decided to call Louis up, just hoping that he would cancel. “Hey,” he answered. “Hey,” Kristin started, “I got your message.” She paused. She wasn’t sure what to continue the conversation with. “I guess that’s a good idea.” “Yeah. I can see us being together in the future, but right now we need to play the field, and grow up. I really want to be with you in the end.” “Yeah,” Kristin whispered, trying to make it sound like she wasn’t crying, “I understand. We definitely need to grow up. Do you still want me to see you Friday still?” “Of course. Just I don’t want to betray the friend boundaries. We can’t kiss or anything.” “Yeah, I know.” Kristin tried fighting back tears. “I’m really glad you are so understanding about this. I really thought you were going to be like ‘f**k you’ or something.” “Yeah,” Kristin giggled. “You should try being more understanding sometimes.” “Yeah, I’m going to be. We get more experience, you know. I’m going to be. We get more experience you know. I’m asking out Amy today.” Kristin started crying now, but covered it up in her voice. They talked a little more, and said their goodbyes, with no ‘I love you’s attached. By then, a few of Kristin’s friends had shown up, and comforted her. She kept thinking inside her head, God why me?? She cried incessantly. That night, she didn’t want to talk to anyone and she didn’t even want to know what Amy said. She was hoping she would tell Louis no, but at the same time, she wanted him to be happy. She called Dominick on the phone. “Hello?” “Hey,” Kristin said whispering over the phone. “What’s wrong?” “Can you come over, please,” she pleaded. “Yeah, sure. I’ll be right over.” Click. Kristin went in her bathroom and cleaned up her face. When she came back, Dominick alarmed her by already sitting on the bed. Kristin had to pull together the little strength she had. “Hey,” she whispered. Dominick got off the bed as Kristin fell into him and started crying uncontrollably. “I can’t believe he did this to me!! And he likes another girl!!” She cried over and over. “Why would he pick her!?” Dominick guided her toward the bed and held her as she cried. “We broke up, because,” she sputtered between sobs, “because, he chose her over me. And now, he’s gone.” Dominick kissed Kristin’s forehead, and gave her tight squeeze. “It’s ok. I’m here, I’ll be here if you need to talk,” he whispered as he continued to hug her. He laid her down on the bed, and she cuddled up against him and cried herself to sleep as he held her. © 2008 Ashley |
