Scared of the Dark

Scared of the Dark

A Poem by Alma Miller
"

From a child's perspective. Written in 2011.

"

The night strangles me

Cutting off my supply of air

And then laughing

As I struggle

To breath.

Too dark

Too quiet

Too deceiving in its

Secrecy

Hiding everything

From my

Wide

Eyes.

I want to scream

To cry

To turn on the light

To wake up my parents

But I am too small

And the dark would

Swallow

Me

Up.

So I wait

And I stare

And I listen

And

Eventually

I fall asleep

My eyes drift shut

And I am not scared

Of the dark

Any

More.

Lovely work.
I fell asleep too with the hypnotizing tricks.
Thanks to the mastery of the poet!
