Chapter Seven

I came to with a haziness that I had never felt before. I could feel the heaviness of my limbs and the burn in my throat as I felt myself take in air through my dried up throat.

What happened? I thought to myself as I opened my eyes to the blinding artificial light.

I slowly started to test my extremities starting with my toes and fingers. They were stiff as I gradually tested them out, but they moved. I then stretched out on the small, dinky hospital bed and heard a creak which made me jump. It was so deathly quiet in here.

I looked around and I could tell that it was night by the crack in the blinds that showed the city lighting up the sky. I slowly started to take in my surroundings even more and noticed a small couch in the corner of the room and a table covered with bright flowers that could be seen in the darkness.

I searched for the call button that I knew would be there and once I found it I pressed it numerous times.

About twenty seconds later, a nurse came rushing into the room.

“You’re awake!” she exclaimed with a little too much enthusiasm for my liking.

“Yeah,” I rasped, “I’m thirsty.”

“Right!” she said loudly making me wince, “I will be back with some water and the on-call doctor.”

After waiting for what seemed like forever, the loud nurse came bustling through the door and handed me my cup of water and walked out faster than she walked in leaving me alone again.

I was just about to push the call button when he walked in.

I took him in greedily. What a handsome man he was. Blonde hair, blue eyes, white teeth, perfect high cheekbones, and a dimple! A cute dimple at that. Oh, wow.

“Ahem,” he cleared his throat and spoke in a sexy, deep voice, “Miss,” he scanned over the chart that was in his hand, “Belle. Do you have a last name?”

“Yes, it-“

I broke off what I was saying as I was interrupted by the door whipping open and slamming against the wall. In a flash Mr. Sexy Doctor was on the floor and a very mad Ash was glaring at him.

“I told you to tell me when she woke up, Xavier!” he yelled.

“She just woke up,” he wheezed with the wind seemingly knocked out of him.

“I’m taking her now.”

“Yes, Alpha,” he submitted without a fight.

That was when I realized what he had just said. He was taking me?!

“I’ll be right back. Come with me, Xavier,” he demanded waltzing out the door with the Doctor in tow.

I made my decision right then and there. I was NOT going to let him take me. He had no control over me.

So I did what any normal, stubborn lady would do: I got up out of the hospital bed, disconnected myself from all the contraptions, and walked out into the hallway to find a way out.
