75. A Most Unwelcome Greeting

*In Haven, Maine*

 

*Reid, Hotch and I arrive in Haven, Maine after a few hours on the jet. We took the jet because our location is further than the rest of theirs. That, and I bribed the jet pilot. I can be PRETTY convincing. Will LaMontagne has left us directions to the Police Chief’s office, in which we follow. Once we are inside, we approach the office doors. Hotch knocks, and a rather attractive guy (which I remember from the show, but I don’t remember his name or anything about him) probably around Reid’s age answers the door. He doesn’t look happy, which is never a good thing*

 

Guy: Excuse me, who are you?

 

*We flash the badge. I love doing this*

 

Hotchner: I’m SSA Aaron Hotchner, Unit Chief of the BAU. We received some, ah, tips stating that you were low on manpower and needed some help on a certain case?

 

Guy: I’m Chief Nathan Wuornos. And your information is incorrect, we’re fine. We actually have our own FBI agent down here helping us, so we’re okay.

 

Me: *recognizes him finally* Agent Audrey Parker, am I right?

 

Nathan: How did you know that?

 

Me: Oh… Well… You see… Ha…

 

Hotchner: *quickly* She knows Agent Parker’s Unit Chief personally.

 

Nathan: *is suspicious* Does she, now?

 

Reid: *interrupts* I’m SSA Dr. Spencer Reid, nice to meet you. *shakes Nathan’s hand* Do you mind if we just look around, make sure everything’s okay?

 

Nathan: That won’t be necessary.

 

Me: Brilliant! *sarcasm* *to Hotch* Where did JJ say Will said there was disturbance?

 

Hotchner: Around the dock area. *Nathan looks panicked* He said he saw a fight break out there, an unusual fight, am I correct?

 

Nathan: *quickly* We handled it.

 

Reid: Then why did Detective LaMontagne report it to us?

 

Nathan: Sometimes Detectives report things they don’t understand.

 

Me: *slightly annoyed* Are you suggesting we’ve been lied to?

 

Nathan: No, I’m SUGGESTING you leave us alone. We HANDLED it.

 

Hotchner: *intervenes* I suppose you have. I guess we made this trip for nothing. Come on.

 

*We leave, Nathan looking perplexed*

 

Me: *as soon as we’re out of earshot* What was that for? We could have caught him in a lie!

 

Hotchner: I suggest we do some undercover work.

 

Reid: Undercover? As in…?

 

Me: *rubs my hands together* Yes!

 

Reid: I’m still not understanding.

 

Me: We get to sneak around.

 

Hotchner: Unofficially.

 

Reid: Couldn’t be get reported for that?

 

Me: Not if we don’t get caught. There’s TWO cops in this town. Big deal.

 

Reid: I thought you said you watched a show about this town…?

 

Me: I did, but it was a while ago. I barely remember anything about the show, only the name of the FBI agent that unofficially works here, I believe.

 

Hotchner: Do you remember anything else?

 

Me: The people had powers. Kind of…

 

Reid: I find that hard to believe.

 

Me: It’s true. The “unusual” fights?

 

Reid: *sighs* Fine.

 

Hotchner: Where do you suggest we start looking?

 

Reid: Since we told them about the docks, they’ll probably go down there to make sure we’re not doing… what we’re currently doing.

 

Me: What about the restaurants? The hang out places?

 

Reid: the “hanging” places?

 

Me: Man, you really ARE out of date.

 

Hotchner: Even I know what that means.

 

Me: And he’s really old.

 

Hotchner: Hey!

 

Me: Just kidding! You know I love you.

 

Hotchner: *sighs*

 

Reid: …What does it mean?

 

Me: You know… hanging out… getting together… play dates?

 

Reid: Play dates? Really?

 

Me: COMING FROM THE GUY WHO DOESN’T KNOW WHAT “HANGING OUT” MEANS.

 

Hotchner: That’s just sad.

 

Reid: Okay, okay. Restaurants it is.

 

Me: We should stay together. So if we get caught, we’ll all get caught.

 

Hotchner: We won’t get caught.

 

Reid: ’Cause if we do, we could lose our jobs.

 

Hotchner and I: …

 

Reid: Okay, I’m sure it won’t be THAT bad.
