Davide e Gionata

Davide e Gionata

A Poem by Allison

I found grace in his eyes

While all of Judah won love

From him. Myths and lullabies

Will tumble from heaven above

To bless our children with wise

Minds and kind hearts. The skies

Forever stretch around me,

The pale pink of a glorious sunrise

Coming as a gift from our God, He

Who blessed us all with this prize,

This king, who has halted our cries

And defeated the beast who hated

His own son. I can hear his final sighs.

I can see his wounds, his blood, faded

Now, seeping into the earth as he dies.

I die, too, but my soul shall rise

Until it is joined with the celestial

Ones. David will one day meet his demise

As his body is but a vessel

On which the heavenly father relies.

And yet, I found grace in his eyes.

It is with me now, cold and taut,

Enveloping my skin as the blood dries

And the groans of these men are caught

In their throats. I can hear the flies

Coming as I imagine our goodbyes.
