EmilyA Chapter by Allie-Shea“Are you okay?” a female voice called from behind me. The voice pulled me from my staring habits and my eyes turned their attention to her. The girl wore dark blue scrubs and a stethoscope hung around her neck. A doctor? A nurse? I wasn’t sure what she was to the hospital, but that didn’t really matter. She walked over to me and held out a hand for me to grab. “Yeah, I’m fine,” I explained while pulling myself up. The girl was very ordinary. Brown hair, brown eyes, about a C sized bra from what I saw, slightly tanned skin, a small layer of freckles, a simple smile. Working in a hospital? She seemed to play it safe. “Are you sure?” she pushed the question. “Yup. Just um...fell,” my voice said smoothly. I’m a lair. She crossed her arms and her brown eyes locked on me, “I saw what happened. You know...that girl’s been a problem here for a while. We could get her in some serious trouble for attacking a patient you know,” she explained. I wanted to laugh, KiKi seemed like the kind of girl that could crawl out of nearly any bad situation. Though, this ordinary girl seemed to think other wise, “Ha! No, it’s fine. I kind of asked for it that time. She likes to stir up trouble...I wouldn’t go trying to get her in any...she only use it to her advantage,” I warned her. The girl looked a bit disgusted when my words fully hit. Most people would find KiKi’s ways...difficult, and the woman in front of me was finding it that way too. “Okay then...if you’re okay with it. Anyways I’m Emily,” she smiled while holding out her hand for me to shake it. Ordinary looks. Ordinary job. Ordinary name. I was now up to three major things that made this girl not stand out from the crowd. She was nothing like the wild fire that burned in KiKi. “Tony,” I said with a small smile and looking at her simply. I didn’t bother addressing myself by Anthony. It was starting to feel to formal for me, uncomfortably formal. “Nice to meet you. Hey...I’m actually on my break. Do you wanna get a bite to eat? Maybe some coffee?” she asked politely. Turning around I knew Milo and the boys were waiting for me, and I didn’t have a ride back to the campus. So, I had to decline, “I’d love to...really I would, but you see I don’t have a ride back to the campus, and well...there’s a group waiting for me-,” she stopped me mid-sentence. “What college?” she forced the question on me. “Penn,” I stated. “I go there!” her voice chimed loudly causing me to flinch. “Here! I’ll give you a ride back. It’s no problem at all!” she was practically bouncing in excitement. “Uh...okay. Um. I’ll go let them know. I’ll be right back,” I explained then began the journey to the hyenas that sat in the waiting room. There they sat, the hyenas waiting to start barking the minute something risky was said. Each with there own distinct looks, but very very similar. Next to the hyenas was the lioness. With her blonde and black mane that was fluffy yet flowing naturally around her face and high fashioned heels the girl had her arms crossed while casting a frightening look at me with her blue eyes. “Ready to go?” Milo asked while standing up. “Actually, I’m going to lunch,” I said trying to avoid as many questions as possible. “Where?” the hyenas began their barking already. “Just with this nurse,” I said softly. “Oh! With who!? A girl?” Adrian cooed. I flashed a glare at him, “No Adrian, with a carrot,” I spat. The boys laughed and joked more and more while trying to get more answers out of me. “What’s she looked like?” Milo pushed another question. “How tall is she?” Dante now joined the questionnaire. “Are her b***s big?” Adrian just had to know. “What’s her name?” Tyler was now in on the questioning too. Staring at them all with highly unamused faces it wasn’t a big deal that I was going out to lunch with this girl. We just met and honestly she wasn’t that stunning. Shaking my head I looked at them, they were all wasting my time, “Ordinary...typical. The average girl. Maybe five foot five...six...maybe. I don’t know...a C? Her name’s Emily,” I answered all the questions and when I thought I was free the lioness made her way in. “Have fun eating lunch with a stripper,” she spat before pulling Milo and Tyler by the back of their shirts, “I’m ready to leave,” she hissed. The two smiled at me then followed KiKi out the door. Dante then followed them and Adrian was the last to leave after adding a comment about trying to get to third base. I couldn’t get over the anger I saw in KiKi’s eyes. Furious...no...beyond furious. The way she pulled them and how she glared at me...both showing maybe a fraction of her true anger. Yet...it was enticing in the most lethal way possible. Don’t let it get to you. I told myself while turning back down the hall way and walking towards the girl. Emily, right? Damn, I couldn’t even remember her own name, and it was so generic. Walking down the hall I was slightly puzzled with everything KiKi had said. Especially, calling Emily a stripper. She’s a nurse...if she were a stripper she’d be putting her job in jeopardy...no one is that stupid. Why was this bothering me so much? I sighed now able to see Emily’s rather unoriginal figure standing in the hall. She must’ve changed out of her scrubs while I was gone. “There you are! I thought you weren’t coming back!” she chimed with a small giggle. Her giggle wasn’t sweet. Like her looks, it wasn’t very unique. It was feminine, but not very subtle. Actually, it was harsh and somewhat forced...a little obnoxious too. “I’m a gentleman. I’d never do such a thing,” I said with a smile that told her little. “Well...at least you’re not rude like the boy that was in your recovery room. Did you know he was sneaking cigarettes in here! Of all places to smoke he acts like the rules don’t apply to him!” she complained. I looked down, this time there was no comment. Though, Milo was being disrespectful and rude he did save my life, and for that this time smoking in a hospital was fine. The rules truly didn’t apply to him...in my book at least. “Huh,” I said trying to sound surprised, because even though I felt that this time it was okay for Milo to smoke...honestly...it didn’t shock me that he was smoking in the damn place anyways. The guy just didn’t seem like the type that cared about much of anything. “Yeah...anyways...how about we go to the dinner down the road?” she exclaimed. I simply nodded, after all she was the one with both the car, money, and whereabouts as to where we were. “Sounds fine,” I said softly, and with those words lead to my first experience in Pennsylvania that didn’t involve my new ‘friends’, and it was as dull and predictable. Shockingly, I hated it. © 2012 Allie-Shea |
