Let it go

If letting you go is something I can do,

I could have done it a long time ago.

Memories of yours have never faded from my mind.

If they had, I won't be dying in your heart.

Never realized how I fell for you.

If I had, I won't be trapped between love and hate.

If my mind and heart could have the same opinion,

I could have let you go a long time ago.

But my heart clings to the past,

While my mind knows it's time to move on.

Wish I had confessed to you.

Wish I had never left you.

If I had, things might be different.

Now I stand here on a rock between the vast ocean in front of me and the sand beneath my feet.

Just like my life, caught between all the memories of yours and the harsh reality of my present.

I wish I could turn back time

To a simpler time, 

when I could have had a chance to make you mine.

But time marches on, and I am left to wonder,

If I could do it all again, would I make it any better??

It's funny,(not haha funny, but sad funny), that we dwell on things and circumstances that we cannot change but wish we could. I'm very guilty of that as I'm sure we all are. People say, "Hey, get your s**t together and move on." Eh, where's the poetic fun in that. The sad truth is we are bound to repeat the pain. There's no second chance, but it's great fuel. The 7th stanza was cutting. All in all, a solid write Aliana.
