The icy wind swept past the solitary lamp-post outside the Police Station. Katy tried to use it to shield her from the wind, for fear she could catch a cold, hypothermia or die from Pneumonia. The stars above her head sparkled and shimmered in the winter air.

I've never seen the all the stars in the sky at the same time,” she thought.

A single tear rolled down her cheek and turned first to slush, then to ice, and it hung off her cheekbone. It then melted in the warm air of her next breath, enough to break away and shatter into a hundred pieces as it crashed into the ground.

She leaned against the lamp post to take some weight off her left leg, as the cold teased her premature arthritis. As fast as she touched the frozen metal, she tried to let go, it's coldness turned her hand to Velcro.

This was going to be a long night.
