NOSTALGIA!A Poem by Saba Sharif
While sitting alone in the dark,
When midnight falls gently
On the fresh green and yellow boughs
Manna pours down from the sky.
It sets prisms and diamonds all over the leaves,
To nourish the buds into flowers bright,
Crimson, orange, and red they will be
When the morn comes.
In such a moment as this,
My fancy, to you, takes its flight.
It sits like an owl out into mists
And shrieks out all the secrets
That lie within the soul of night,
Bringing your thoughts to me
Back with all their might.
Throwing a charm all over me,
Eternal silence falls,
And darkness overflows.
An overwhelming grief,
A sadness that never was known.
O! pain, a deep, sensitive pain.
Paralyzed, spellbound,I can hardly move.
Sitting by my window, aimlessly
No one knows, for how long,
Fighting with all the memories in my head,
Kept dear and safe for so long.
Then somewhere in the deep,
A jackal breaks the code of night, a shriek,
A piteous, heart rending echoing sound
By the soul that may be parted
From his mates and now cries
Out of sheer loneliness and grief.
It cries and sets me free.
With a sudden, quick movement of my hands
I wipe the tears off my cheeks
And smile, hopelessly,
Knowing that,
You will never know,
December nights are deep, dreary and too long
Without you!
