on hawking’s death

in the physiology of survival hawking’s breath
both on his own and ventilator assisted stands remarkable.
what intelligence did survival bring to ALS altar
when muscles waste mind must somehow impinge
on its action, but what in the DNA, soul of a man,
imagination or comic rectitude saved him until 71 years?
aside from his highly intelligent contribution to cosmology
his survival seems a greater triumph.

I wholeheartedly agree, Alfred. That he lasted for 76 years was as great an achievement as any he achieved in his scientific career. The world lost a great mind, a man of endless courage with a wondrous will to live and help humanity.

The sad thing for me was, on the next day after his passing, our newspaper preferred to place on its front page a scandal plagued footballer instead of acknowledging his passing and achievements. It just goes to show what is valued in some modern societies nowadays.

I loved this write, Al. A fitting tribute to the smartest mind since Einstein.

"imagination or comic rectitude saved him until 71 years?" I love that you mentioned how positive he was, how open to humor and jokes...Also, his views on religion and God concur with my own, and that made him all the more brilliant to me...
Lovely poem, Al! It touched my heart!
Remember to look up at the stars every night! May this legend rest in peace...
