Hiatus

Six year run
Adventure sifting through my skin
South bound to below seas unknown
Women everywhere I stay alone
Sunshine sings to my blues of Nam
Midwest
Serendipity following my blood
Talking to the sky
Question like answers
Giving epiphany a view
Like magic on my eyes
Wonder in the blue
Knowledge here
Imagination over there
Hearing screams feeling delivered
West
Old friends passing
My smile expanding
Soul girl knocking on my midnight door
I hide beneath a hidden floor
Learning, writing,
New friends anew
PTSD visits
My soul can't make it through
I'm lost in wisdom that calls my name
Northeast
Collect my wounds
See a wall with all the names
Cry baby cry all night long
Artists, poems, acting like a King
A small heal feels like a game
East
A feeling of home comes into view
I'm limping here but feel some renew
One step lightly two steps back
Progress a slow train that arrived from the past.

Thank you FT! It's stunning the way a mind organizes the past and for the poet to complete the mission.

Regards,
Al

those thoughts on hiatus for so long but gathered here nicely in a well-written poem, Al... i love the way you use points of the compass to separate the different memories you draw from...you bring your past into light and shine an understanding on it that is admirable... I could never know the haunts of war, as I have never fought in one to survive it, however, through your words I catch glimpses of the imprints left behind by your battles and I feel privileged to be able to read this... well-done, my friend... all the best, FT

Thank you gentlemen! I know this was milling around in my mind for two or three days. I wasn't sure if it was ready but it turned out fine. Minor adjustments after the initial write. Special thanks to you Jacob, my mentor, friend & fellow poet!

regards,

al

maybe at this point in our lives, that is all we can feel..."some renew"

the past follows us around...the good and the bad...and "each small heal feels like a game"
in any direction our lives take us.

one of my favorites from you, Al.

Returning for war, any war is a happy and yet sad time. Happiness to be home and with your loved ones, but then the sadness of lost friends and to most family. Very well penned relief of some old pain I expect. Thank you for sharing. In your case a lot was seeing many returning under these circumstances. And thank you for your service.
