Looking Back at Me

Once there was nobody

not even me.

My senses begged

my heart bled in vain

once again nobody

i called out

nobody heard

i laid by still waters

listened

mused in the silence

once again nobody

something

anything

yet nobody

until age came to me

walked me down to the oldness

here, there,

i looked and found myself

looking back at me.

life does pass us by and sometimes we have to dig deep to see ourselves for who we have become... i enjoyed the biblical reference to the still waters and the positive outcome of your search, Al... glad you found yourself :)

I liked the ending of this poem Alfred. After all the searching and looking ahead-during young years, the old self, looks back :D great imagery and metaphor :D
