Nearest Smile 500 Miles

Nearest Smile 500 Miles

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

a long walk to happiness

"

Nearest Smile 500 Miles

You bled on Tuesday’s wound in your heart,

cuddled in past memories

you wondered where it all went.

you promised yourself to find it

and walk a 100 miles.

The walk started at midday,

frowns everywhere along the highway,

cars passing in shrill response to your condition,

the wind seemingly drifting a few feet in front of you

you thirst but lack water

the sign ahead reads

Nearest Smile 500 miles

with withered feet moving a mile a day.

I hitchhiked from Arizona to Pennsylvania meeting smiles and frowns along the way.

Thanks Jacob for visiting!

"if you miss the train i'm on, you' will know when i am gone"

still looking for that elusive smile...but today...too many people are frowning, not enjoying life and each other...that is not a good condition.

Beautiful Poem. There's a longing to be somewhere and your poem captures that longing so well. Thanks for sharing.
