The Sixties Bag Again

The Sixties Bag Again

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

buying it all

"

A Sixties Bag Again

the grocery bag grew huge

with all the civil rights brouhaha

on sale like never before.

And Nam was on sale too.

It was being carried out in

huge red containers,

they put dead stickers on them,

just to big to bag.

the shoppers didn’t seem to mind

carrying them out that way.

the student protest six packs became popular

since they passed new liquor laws.

folks loved the convenience

everyone was picking up Time

what with John killed, Bobby likely next

and Martin somewhere in between

Peter, Paul & Mary sang “Where Have

All the Flowers Gone” before

anyone could get out the door.

Oh my! What a day at the market!

I'll always remember these days with a sad heart. Except for my friends things were bad. Nam was heading my way, I was living in a dysfunctional family, the drinking started early. Thank you all for your visit. I really enjoy you all. "In the Many Gifts" is all for you!

Absolutely nothing...
Good poem

Casualty of politics and war never be compensated, as they can not return a single second from anyone's life. This poem works like a time machine. Thanks for penning it down Al.

You've cleverly preserved time with a poetic nod...much applause!

what a fine metaphor carried through in this "market" poem about that era...
you would have to know how much i like this piece...my era...
love the title and theme...and as i was reading it....i was thinking of Sly and the Family Stone (saw them in concert) and Everyday People...

"makes no difference what bag i'm in....i am everyday people"

what was everyday then, it is simply history now...including the mindset.

love this poem
