A Gathering Around the Chime

A Gathering Around the Chime

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

the loss of clock value

"

a chime gathered round the morning,

people paused in their steps

looking for daylight.

the chime was meant to announce

the loss of light in the morning hours,

dusk through the day

the darkness encouraged silence in the speaker,

say what you will,

say silence if he be so,

so they all gathered around the chime

as if they could find their souls.

That is funny and yet we love such chimes, especially the church bells when they are near a playground or lovely wooded area for the children to run around in. I feel that you have really tapped into social ritual the way we think God is in the buildings we create for worship. What a funny thing we do, that we have such places for church and such. Until we have families of our own, if we ever do, we perhaps do not know what even that is about or even then while we do not know...
