At the Table

At the Table

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

Hunger all over the world

"

There is always a seat at the table,
Filled with hunger in a thousand or more mouths
The main course seems to be the biggest struggle
As child and adult mash the empty air
Desert is another story where kids ask,
"What do you mean"
No one has any answers because
Someone has eaten their dreams.

The world lacks any semblance of balance. The politics of bullshit. Thanks for your insightful comments.

what a metaphor..."No one has any answers because/ Someone has eaten their dreams"

how can we have dessert when there is nothing for the main course, so many starving in our country.

always gets me...we send money to other countries to help the poor...but we just seem to ignore our own....poets don't...you don't....you address the issue in a really impactful piece of writing.
very direct, yet figurative in its own right.
