Uncle Mike
A Poem by
Alfred Kukitz
My uncle died in WWII
He's long dead
The kind of dead
That old age never saw
I'm his nephew in the later years
Far away from WWII,
Closer to the Nam
Whose death flows
In my blood.
He's my uncle brave,
Saint Lo, France
Killed in action
Two weeks after
the unsuccessful
attempt on Hilter's life.

Its good to remembered the love ones we have lost in all those years, maybe for the world your uncle is dead...however you made his soul extremely proud today.
You paid a tribute to a war hero, the way he deserves...Well done my friend!

Diego you always have a way with touching people's heart tenderly. I don't think you are far off from your goal. Thank you do much!

Evocative. And you teach me a lesson here A.K.. To remember that when the poet has graduated away from themselves and into the realm of the honoring of others he/or she has now entered the realm of the Giving poet, the one who has decided there are bigger fish to fry, more, people to touch. I hope to reach that poet in myself one day.
Well done, Alfred.

On behalf of my uncle and myself we thank you for being alive and contributing to the beauty of the planet.

' Lest we forget ' !
A fine tribute to the many, many brave souls who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our present liberty, democracy and expression of freedom!
Superb Alfred !

so impactful...this poem, and what war does...those who die way before their time...and all those who never get the chance to know them...
first stanza is so so good.

"He's long dead
The kind of dead
That old age never saw"
...so many who served were never afforded the longivity of years. The impact of your words hits home for me, Alfred.
