Whale in the Morning

Whale in the Morning

A Story by Alfred Kukitz
"

Surprise! There is a whale in the living room.

"

It's 3 a.m. and through no choice of my own I awaken. Seemingly lost in the dark, briefs and T-shirt are my entire wardrobe. I meander about finding a whale in the living room.  In some way the whale communicates "lets swim."

"I haven't had my coffee yet" I mumble. He yawns and waits. I play scrabble, read the news, sip coffee.

Later the whale and I sink into the rapture of the deep.

"So that's why you're here!"

it's almost like the elephant in the room...there is a reason we are awakened at 3 a.m.---perhaps the pen needs to get busy...we are weighed down with a thought that needs to go on paper...but we have to wake ourselves up first, get in gear, and then we can communicate with the muse.

like the elephant, the whale will not lose itself in the room, it will wait patiently for us.
