A Letter Home from Vietnam

A Letter Home from Vietnam

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

You can hardly believe your in a war that doesn't matter.

"

Dear Mom & Dad,

It seems strange having a soul here in Vietnam.

I feel naked.

I can’t seem to get my head around how huge this

Whole thing is. The entire south filled with human

Beings wanting to kill each other.

I think I’ll be crying for a while after its over.

Most guys say two things:

“It don’t mean nothing.”

“Just do your year and go home.”

My first real adult experience and it stinks.

These guys are like the boys I played ball with

At home. Like a second family.

It’s not that I want to adopt them

It seem like I can’t help it.

Damn this war!

Love, Your son.

Thanks Amos! I thought about the war every day I was there. Most guys told me to forget it. I simply couldn't it was who I was.

Such an honest, deep and pure feelings...war left scars on minds of soldiers and it does not matter you win or you loose. This was strong write and you left me speechless!
