There Were Silences

There Were Silences

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

Silence plays a huge part in the evolution of species.

"

There were always great silences.

When glaciers fell that silent noise could be heard all the way to the present day. Finally night fell, critters in their own jumpy newness,

Gathered round the great silence of being and

In their remarkable belief in one great single present moment

Have traveled all the way to our twenty-first century hour.

They echo through the ages in the sounds of crickets,

The flash of the lightening bug and the stampede of herds.

We, too, have heard our own minds walk upon a timeline still.

In our own flashy pose have climbed the ladder of the supreme goal.

Now with still many souls blessed and worn

We hear a long prayer of peace in our collective horn.

There was a wisdom, a peace that swept across me when I read this piece. I never thought about how the world must of sounded like, many many years ago without the noise, of the human being. We are so, loud... Thank you, Alfred. for sharing this.
