Utopia

Utopia

A Poem by Laz K.
"

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not comprehend it. (John 1:5)

"

Haunted by a dream

The centuries could

Neither realize nor forget,

We march on toward

The same mirage that had

Led men again and again

Through a desert of futility

Where survival of the fittest is

Really the only law, and

Brother inevitably turns

Against his brother.

Our love is a rock

To crush brittle bones with,

A black mare and a white stallion

To pull the world apart with.

The crescendo of screams is

A lullaby to our deaf ears;

Tears are like the dew at dawn:

A part of the natural order of things.

When hearts sink into

The heaviness of their own silence,

When eyes go blind to

The false light of this world

Then, new roads will lead to

A new land beyond this desert and

Its arid sand.

Superb work. Sharp and vivid.

Mankind needs oblivion when cruel fate moves closer. Best with every intention and strength to find the best and brightest in life, in honouring life and the way it's used. A glance at and of something is merely a dot on a horizon; one needs more and the More of everything brings hope shining bright. '

I like the way this poem explores the darker aspects of human nature and the struggle to survive in a harsh environment, while still hinting at the possibility of redemption and transformation. Powerful and thought provoking piece here.
