Three in a Car

Three in a Car

A Poem by Laz K.

Tighter than the flat coils of

Safety belts on our chest,

A feeling of unease grabs

Our throats.

Eyes fixed on the road,

We watch the occasional cyclist

As if the smooth helmet, or

The curved handlebar were

Never-before-seen marvels.

"Jumping Deer! Drive with Care!"

The road sign is not a warning,

But a sliver of hope:

Something might crash into us and

Break the icy grip of silence.

There's an old, ivy-clad decrepit house feel to your words; cold emptiness. Best be the cyclist, knowing and being self than sit in a half full vacuum - waiting for nothing.

There are comfortable silences and then there are ones like this find us crashing into awkwardness.
The cyclist has comfortable silence...no pressure to converse.
