House of Mirrors

House of Mirrors

A Poem by Laz K.

As the Earth spins around its axis,

Tumbling through space,

Staring at the sun for millennia,

Hypnotized by the rhythm of

Lights on and lights off, I too,

Zip and hurry through life

Whirling, twirling and tumbling

In a world made of mirrors.

Leaning, vintage, and vanity,

Convex, concave and more,

Enough to lose your sanity.

I look at you and who do I see?

Is it you, or is it a reflection of me?

You reflect my reflection of you,

In a distorted world, who’s to tell

What’s falsehood and what’s true?

Close your eyes and you might see

What you are, not what you want to be.

The door is open, leave this

House of mirrors, walk away from

Illusions, deception, and errors.

very meditative and interesting work. that moment of realisation that all you really know is you, that your perception is acutely limited: 'in a world made of mirrors' a succinct line. this exploration in to epistemology was guided by some stunning imagery - of the earth, the cosmos, and a person who you like. in this grand scape, we are still ultimately alone trapped by the walls of a prison called 'the mind.' 'Illusions, deception, and errors' is a stark ending to this verse. riveting stuff.

Bravo! And here, here! say I. I was just touching upon this exact same thought in a recent reply to a comment you left on my work. We get lost in that maze of mirrors and deception. And the greater sorrow is that most of these illusions are created by ourselves. We build our own prisons for our minds and spirits to inhabit when all the time we are free and should be embracing that freedom like an excited puppy when someone left the gate open. We have it ALL but want to "settle" for only a tiny crumb of our existence. Great stuff here. I look forward to reading more of your work. F.
