The Triumph of Puppets

The Triumph of Puppets

A Poem by Laz K.

Mesmerized by their own dangling feet,

Wobbling heads, and shiny faces,

Eyes that were made to sparkle, and

Cheeks painted with the

Likeness of genuine excitement,

The click-clack of their shiny shoes,

The glow of their coats of varnish,

They blink,

They wink,

They mouth words that

Dead wood, no matter how glossy,

Cannot comprehend.

Their unfeeling hands lift lifeless blocks,

Erect towers and monuments, and

Shape wheels and wings and,

From the mount of self-deceit,

They declare the triumph of puppets.

This poem is multi faceted. Gave me strong images of different situations. You took me back to the joy of childhood and watching Punch and Judy shows on the beach and then the mood changed. Then, it turned to polítics and I felt a lead weight drop. A poem of immense contrast. You pack so much into a short poem Laz. An excellent write.
