On the Surface

On the Surface

A Poem by Laz K.

The water is smooth like
A silk blanket thrown over
The suffocating depths of our bed.
Our bodies glide like eels
There's no stable footing for thought
On the wet mirror of our mind.
Back and forth like a pendulum
We go, cutting deeper and deeper
Into the fabric of memory.
It was so, and if you saw me now,
Stroke after strong stroke,
You might think "focus"
Or perhaps "strength"
But, then you'd only be
Skimming the surface
Like I am now in the pool
On this early morn' in June.

We are all just a little bit more than what is sen on the surface of things Laz. The thoughts and worries we try to keep a lid on and all the things we hope, for ourselves and loved ones, as well as how deep the water we are in now is and will our feet ever touch the safety of land, or at least find purchase and safety of walking to shore again, and the other 6 million and 42 things that go on behind the scenes of our thoughts, playing to an audience of one, the tale that goes beyond the layers of skin and a long way to making us, us.
