Multiplicity

Multiplicity

A Poem by Laz K.

A drop of water in the sea,

A tiny, transparent eyeball,

Lidless, restless, open to it all:

The sun, as it makes its rounds

Like a lord surveying his domain,

His watchmen the stars

Keeping vigil in his absence,

The moon, with her ever-changing face,

The winds whispering wonders

Of the whole wide world,

The pebbles at the bottom of the shallows,

The sand on the beach, and in it,

The footprints that are quickly erased.

Mirrored in a tiny drop,

Myriad lives, myriad ways,

Everything comes and goes,

Nothing really stays, but the

Mind’s eye in the drop of the sea,

And its never-ending gaze.

A nice picture is drawn with this. Well done.

We are so insignificant in the overall picture of things. Just a dust mote in time. Here one minute, gone the next. Yet, the oceans, the sun, moon and stars are forever. Beautiful poem Laz.

Aren't we all just tiny drops that make us oh so insignificant, yet we can only be what we are and that sometimes leaves us feeling like we are oh so important and front and centre in this drama that is our life.
It is the beauty of nature, that we all strive for purpose amongst the incomprehensible balance and enormity of existence, while trying to learn as much in our time and not running around screaming "wow" at the implausability of everything connecting and working as it should.
But then again, maybe we do and I'm just old enough to be impressed by it all and no longer bothered with youths attempts at acting cool and like it's no big deal.
Maybe it's just as well we usually only have a finite time here to learn as much as we can from our few interests. If we lived longer we might just be so impressed with it all our heads might explode and put an end to that long life.

this reminds me of an idea I have often pondered...what if man ceased to exist...animals too...and it was back to how it was after the 4th or 5th day of creation...nothing but nature...I think she would be pleased to have the world for herself again.
Another really excellent piece from you Laz...
Again, I am underwhelmed by the number of views with no comments. You are such an excellent wordsmith.
