Free Will

Free Will

A Poem by Laz K.

One day, I’ll ascend the narrow path,

Sit on a rock, let silence speak, and I shall

Receive all that I want, all that I seek.

One day, I’ll loosen the straps and

Let my burdens fall; I shall straighten my back,

And stand up tall.

One day, I’ll smile again as I did long ago,

When innocence dwelt in me, when

With the world I didn’t much disagree.

But, I turn from heaven just to catch a glimpse of you,

And, though I nearly break when I hear your voice,

For you, I trade deliverance as if I had no choice.

Let silence speak is a great line and something we should do more often.
I can't wait to loosen those straps and stand straight for once, instead of being under the weight of burden to... What exactly? Fit in? Behave?
We talk of a child's innocence like it's a weakness, but since when is not being corrupted yet a weakness.
Kids start losing their innocence the day the realise adults make things difficult for themselves.
Put them in charge, they couldn't make a bigger mess of things if they tried to! 😊

Yes, God gave man free will; and we know the rest from there. I love how you begin the poem, ascending, receiving everything, and then, by the end, trading it all. I would like to think it's worth it, but I pause. Well penned.

When free will can come under threat! I like the thoughts here, Laz. I've read it through a few times.
