The Sun Within

The Sun Within

A Poem by Laz K.

Squint your eyes

Hold your breath

Walk fast, but

Do walk through

The sick ward

In a hospital

Once in a while.

Go in the summer

When the world

It seems

Is a cheerful place

Full of light.

Clench your teeth

Flex every muscle

Cry if you must, but

Do walk down

The mossy stone steps

In your mind

To the place where

The sea is an endless

Blanket of silk

Gently undulating

In the golden rays of

Undying hope.

A powerful piece Laz. Yes the sun doesn't shine for so many people. There is so much suffering, and a hospital visit certainly highlights that. On the good days, we need to have a thought for the less fortunate. Hospitals aren't just for the dying though, they are also about recovery and hope for a better future. We must always have hope.

A great poem. love the lines "do walk through/the sick ward/in a hospital/once in a while/go in the summer"
beautifully rendered image, that doubles as a challenge command to discover one's humanity

Having worked in hospital for 12 years, I can identify with this one, especially the first stanza. Even on beautiful summer days, such a place has an air of somberness about it. Suffering is part of life, and realizing this keeps us from being surprised and overwhelmed by it. Stanza two tells us to face as best we can the pain within us, for under the ugliness lies undying hope. A very thoughtful piece here.

Thank you for reading and for giving thoughtful comments.
try as we may to ignore suffering and live in our own insulated box, we cannot, we should not.
Others need the empathy we can give them, the understanding we can give them...
it's not a Wonderful World for everyone.
power in this write,
j.
