AffinityA Poem by Laz K.O, your silence is distant Like the cold shimmer of Nameless, impassive stars Sprinkling diamond dust on A world of ash and dust. The warmth of her skin, The salt in her sweat, The pulsating night of Her pupils, and her breath On my slightly parted lips Speak a truth that your Prophets and scriptures May not deny. I have seen The sagging shoulders of Crumbling old age Collapsing onto a Stubborn heart that's Like a hooked fish Dragged onto the Shores of another realm Gasping, dying, dead. One day our sighs and screams Will be silenced; one day perhaps We’ll behold you greeting us with Open arms, dressed in white. You, made of the mist Of our myriad hopes and dreams; You, a sometimes thought That drifts through the air like A weightless white feather Trampled on by sinewy feet, Crushed by hard hands Made of flesh and bleached bone That know only the law of kill Or be killed. © 2022 Laz K. |
