CinderellaA Poem by Laz K.The topic was prompted by a friend. This is my take on the well-known fairytale. An
orphaned heart is a wintry fortress Where
nobility is reduced to servitude, To
shuffle barefoot dressed in rags. When
her masters’ watchful eyes Give
way to sleep, and their calculating Minds
ruminate on mundane dreams, From
the flickering light of a candle She
conjures her own nocturnal fairytale. Shaking
the dust of everydays from The
folds of her mind, she dresses in a Moonlight
gown, and crowns herself with Myriad
sparkling stars to claim her prize: “Love,
love, unbound, and audacious!” she cries. The
magic breaks at the first touch of morning light That dances
on the wet grass, but till then It’s
a wonder to behold her nakedness, Pure
and transparent as glass. © 2022 Laz K.Featured Review
